Branden Bodendorfer has worked with more than 2,000 businesses since 2004. Meridian Shift is where that experience is available directly, without an account team in the middle.

Meridian Shift: twenty-two years of building businesses, marked by 2004 start, 2,000 businesses served, 50 startups launched, and four businesses built

Branden Bodendorfer is a marketing strategist and business consultant, and the founder of Meridian Shift. He has worked in business development and marketing since 2004, with more than 2,000 businesses, and has launched over 50 startups. He has also built four businesses of his own. Meridian Shift is his consultancy, working with small and mid-size companies on marketing strategy, SEO, AI search visibility, brand positioning, and fractional CMO leadership.

Why this exists

Most marketing advice comes from people who have never carried the risk. They studied it, or they managed it from a distance, or they read the same case studies everyone else read. That advice is usually fine. It's rarely useful.

Branden started in business development in 2004 and hasn't stopped since. Some of that work was for clients. A lot of it was for businesses he owned, where a bad marketing decision came out of his own pocket. That difference shows up in the advice.

He's also been on the wrong side of it. Products that didn't sell. Positioning that made sense internally and confused everybody else. Campaigns that looked good in a report and produced nothing. Those are the more useful stories, and they're the reason the first conversation usually starts with what to stop doing.

What "built four businesses" actually means

It's an easy line to put on a website, so here's the substance behind it.

The clearest example is Key2Success Planner, a digital planning system for iPad, reMarkable, Surface, and OneNote users. Branden founded it and still runs it. It has customers in more than 52 countries. That business handles its own product development, its own support queue, its own content, its own paid acquisition, and its own churn problem. Nobody hands you a playbook for that.

This matters for one reason. Running Key2Success means the marketing advice comes from someone who currently owns a P&L, not from someone who owned one a decade ago. When a client asks whether a channel is worth the spend, the answer comes from a person making that same call on their own money this quarter.

It's operating experience. That's the whole point of mentioning it.

How the work actually goes

You work with Branden. Not a strategist who reports to a director who reports to a partner you met once during the pitch. There's no handoff after the contract is signed, because there's nobody to hand off to.

That's a real constraint and worth being straight about. It means Meridian Shift can't take on unlimited clients, and it means engagements get scoped around what one senior person can genuinely own. Most people looking at a fractional CMO are choosing this on purpose. If you need a fifteen-person team executing across nine channels, you need an agency, and it's better to know that in the first call than the third month.

What tends to happen instead: a short diagnostic on where the business actually is, a decision about what to stop, and then a small number of things done properly.

Common questions

What does Meridian Shift actually do?

Marketing strategy, SEO, AI search optimization, content, brand positioning, fractional CMO leadership, business development, coaching, and sales growth for small and mid-size businesses. In practice most engagements start with strategy and visibility, because that's usually where the problem is.

Is this an agency?

No. An agency sells you a team and a retainer. This is one senior operator working directly with a small number of businesses. Different model, different tradeoffs, and it isn't right for everyone.

Who is a good fit?

Businesses somewhere between five and fifty people that are past the referral stage and don't have a senior marketing person setting direction. Often the owner has been doing marketing themselves and has run out of hours.

Who isn't?

Pre-revenue companies that need a brand built from nothing on a startup budget, and large organizations that already have a marketing team and need execution capacity rather than direction.

Where is Meridian Shift based?

Wisconsin. The work is national, and most of it happens over video, so location rarely matters to a client.

What happens on the first call?

Thirty minutes, free, no deck. You describe where the business is and what's stuck. Branden tells you what he'd look at first and whether he's the right person for it. Sometimes the answer is no, and that's a useful thirty minutes too.
